Circa 1927
an historic home with high ceilings and an open floor plan. The entire home required cosmetic work from top to bottom, including an untouched attic and pool patio
custom shaker cabinets in a deep gray | removed all upper cabinets | installed devol hardware handmade in england for all the pulls and handles | added original art | added a professional, commercial grade faucet | new countertops with silestone | kept the hexagon tile floor, which doesn’t compete with busy veining on the counters | added a splash of wallpaper by rebel
The Kitchen
Dining Room
to pull from the blues in the living room, two pieces of matching art consigned by Kevin Gilmore | restored the original built-in storage for colorful serving wares | a 1950s bar is hidden in the mid-century credenza| sconces pull in soft light for intimate dining while not competing with the room’s art | vintage chandelier | the drop-leaf dining room table is also an original Dutch mid-century antique and seats 8 | the chairs surrounding the table are original Herman Millers and Bertoia
A Few Remodels
pulled out a wall between the kitchen and dining room | ripped up the tile in the dining room to reveal the home's original 1920s wood floors | the window valences are custom built | sourced and restored this 6-burner vintage Viking stove | to maximize space, removed a double oven and more cabinets | made room for more art | added a Mimi Sammis watercolor and below it a print by Hope Mongeau
Living Room
art and locally sourced textiles are favorites | swivel chairs (originally in a faded red velvet) found at the Salvation Army in Providence, stripped and rebuilt with this luscious, navy blue velvet | the small table leading into the den is an original vintage gilt metal sheaf of wheat coco chanel side table | original art by Ron Ehrlich | smaller RISD prints anchor the entrance into the den with the home’s native french doors | quiet drapes bookend the room | sides of the fireplace are framed by original leaded glass bookcases

this room really honors local art with a strong wall collage | the television is hidden on a back wall so it’s not seen from other rooms in the home | all the books are favorites so there’s no clutter |the typewriter came from a neighbor’s garage sale | the couches, like all the couches in the house, are by Mitchell Gold | the art is sourced from finds in Pawtucket mills, art studios run by adult with intellectual and developmental disabilities and a few are by Alison | three of the paintings (including both below the television) are by Theresa Girard | the chairs in the sun room are vintage Russell Woodard | the coffee table is vintage and originally found broken in pieces

this is all about pops of more color and loads of wallpaper | another vintage Woodard Russell chair sits in the mini library | custom window valances | floating shelves | the light is from the basement of WCVB-TV where Alison’s husband works as the chief news photographer
